AFST 400 - Racism in Big Data Credits: 4
In the Big Data world, data is the new frontier of racism. Citizens require proficiency in Data Science application tools to uncover algorithmic racism and biases that entrench injustice and inequality. This course introduces students to a data visualization application for analyzing trends and patterns and for critically developing strategies to combat racism. Students will learn the fundamental concepts of data visualization in the process of manipulating Open City Data to search for hidden racial biases encoded in the records of hospitals, the courts, city government, police, and prisons.
