PHIL 465 - 21st Cent Longings: In Transit Credits: 4
How can we engage rapidly expanding modes of communication and the potential of transdisciplinary tools of analysis to bring to expression the myriad, often conflicting, longings of the 21st century? In transit among blogosphres, street corners and barren lands, cities and rural locations, intimate memory and the body’s skin, the class will explore narratives of refuge and refugee, invisibility, and cultural translation. Recent African and Asian diasporic and feminist theory, literatures, and film will be our focus, including Heart’s Traffic, Arjun Appadurai, Fear of Small Numbers, Dionne Brand, What We All Long For, and Edouard Glissant, Poetics of Relation. Offered regularly.
