SW 580C - School Social Work Practice


Credits: 3

This course introduces students to school-based social work practice. Students will develop competence in select practice behaviors related to school-based social work with children, adolescents, families and interdisciplinary teams. Students will be exposed to the educational, human service, and organizational policies which influence practice in school settings. The course will explore practice within a variety of settings, including urban and rural communities; elementary, middle and high schools; and contract or community-based services linked to schools. The course will present strengths-based methods of differential assessment and intervention to address diverse needs of students and families in school communities as well as strategies for family engagement and interdisciplinary practice. Prerequisites: foundation courses.
