THEA 202 - Evolution of Clothing & Style

Credits: 4

In this class, you will learn to identify historical periods of clothing by exploring how fashion trends relate to social, political, geographic and scientific events of a period. We will examine and explore the global evolution of dress to include researching a period, clothing item or aspect of fashion in a period to examine and present to the class. You will also keep a visual labeled collage/copy project for a quick reference guide. The framework will simulate the process that goes into researching any piece of theater as a director, as an actor, or as a designer. You will be able to research individual productions by filling in the context within which the story occurs. The resulting project will be a visual record of fashion at a certain time and place in history, whether it is Hollywood in the 1930s, rural China in the 19th C, or Italy at the height of its fashion dominance. only.
