TRIP 576 - Film and Theatre Translation Credits: 2
This course introduces the basic concepts and terminology needed for translation for the film and theater industries using representative parallel texts and source texts for translation practice. The course will be structured around two types of translations: 1) drama and film scripts; 2) technical documents in the production of films and dramas. Students learn to translate industry terminology, with particular attention given to key challenges that translators face in film and drama translation, including the translator’s own knowledge gap and the cultural distance that may prevail between source language and the target language users. Students may have opportunities to practice TV and film subtitling. Prerequisites: Translation Workshop: Non-Literary
