TURK 350 - Turkish Linguistics Credits: 4
This course examines the Turkish language from the perspective of various subfields of linguistic inquiry, including phonology, morphology, syntax, typology, and historical linguistics. Topics, which will vary from year to year, will reflect areas of current research and theoretical debate, such as the Altaic Hypothesis, vowel harmony, and differential object marking. The instructor will provide students with the necessary background in linguistic theory and the Turkish language, and students in small groups will present data and arguments from published scholarly work. only.
