BME 586X - Neuroengineering

This is an advanced course on the engineering designs for nervous systems. Neuroengineering tech elective course, designed for students aiming to forge a career at the cutting edge of neurotechnology. Positioned at the 400/500 level, the course necessitates a prerequisite completion of BME 210, ensuring a foundational grounding to further build upon. Throughout the course, students will be immersed in the core physical principles underpinning neuroengineering, encompassing electrical, optical, and magnetic approaches pivotal in neural recording and stimulation. The curriculum is structured to offer a deep dive into neural circuits and systems, thereby facilitating the development of technologies that are set to redefine healthcare and technological advancements. Students will engage in lectures with hands-on demos for practical acquaintance with contemporary neuroengineering tools and software. Collaboration on group projects will foster essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and manuscript preparation, nurturing a generation ready to lead in research, product development, or clinical applications. Prerequisites: BME 201.
