ECON 554 - Advanced Corporate Economics Credits: 4
Investigation of the role of modern complex corporations in the economy. Focus is on how they meet society’s needs while creating economic value for all stakeholders and how managers strategically respond to major macro-economic developments and other external environmental events that present opportunities or threats to performance. Corporate strategy, governance, capital allocation and financing, payout models, as well as relations with the government are the principal areas of coverage. Underlying economic theory and analytical tools for the empirical components are emphasized. Students will develop skills for critical thinking, teamwork, and communication through completion of a hands-on capstone project that involves researching, analyzing, and valuing a real corporation. Restricted to the following fields of study: BS Spec Financial Economic 4+1 (52B); BS Econ Policy Analysis 4+1 (62B); BS Economics Analysis 4+1 (92C); Economics 4+1 (C2B); Economics (C62). Offered regularly once a year.
