INFO 535 - Applied Data Mining Credits: 3
With advances in modern technology, such as the widespread use of electronic records or the internet, the sheer volume of data is staggering. The challenge is to distill the data into useful knowledge that has relevance for managerial decisions. Data mining techniques provide solutions to this challenge. This course will introduce the main topics and algorithms in data mining and knowledge discovery. Emphasis will be placed on the algorithmic and systems issues, as well as application of mining in real-world problems. Upon successful completion of this course, students will gain knowledge of key data mining concepts and algorithms, and be able to apply different data mining techniques to solve real-world problems.
Prerequisite: (Can be taken concurrently) INFO 501, INFO 502. Offered at least once a year.
