ANTH 583C - Methods in Zooarchaeology

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to zooarchaeology, exploring its multidisciplinary nature through archaeological, anthropological, biological, and ecological approaches. Students will learn key theories, research principles, field and lab methodologies, and the use of zooarchaeological data to reconstruct past environments and subsistence strategies. The lab component offers hands-on experience in identifying animal remains, analyzing bone modifications, and applying quantitative and age/sex estimation methods to zooarchaeological assemblages.
