CINE 360 - Expanded Cinema Credits: 4
This course introduces students to the principles of Expanded Cinema, art of moving images/objects exhibited beyond the conventional theater. From lectures, discussions, and creative production assignments, students will learn about pre-cinema devices and ideas (e.g. magic lantern, panoramic painting, phenakistiscope, and zoetrope), while understanding the ideas of time based installation. Towards the end of the semester, students will exhibit their expanded cinema works as a group show, learning strategies on how to engage with gallery spaces and work with gallery staff. Prerequisites: CINE 121, 122, 252, for Art students, at least one 200-level Art Studio course. Spring only.
