GEOG 345 - Urban Planning Analysis I Credits: 4
Focus on the wider aspects of urban planning using basic analytical methods used by urban and regional planners in both a theoretical and applied manner via lecture, videos, discussion, drone flights and city building simulations. New conceptions of functions of urban areas, population analysis and forecasting, industrial location and methods for attracting firms, commercial growth, the housing sector are explored. Major themes covered: (1) planning concepts and urban plans; (2) preparation of urban plans; (3) theories, values, and ethics; (4) new urbanism and urban variants; and (5) urban sustainability concepts. Prerequisite: any one of GEOG 232, 233, 235 or ECON 360 or 362.
