SW 200 - Biology for the Social Worker

Credits: 4

“This course provides a basic background in human biology that is generally lacking in many high school biology curricula. There will be a focus on human body systems (anatomy and physiology). There will be a significant emphasis on disease and its impact on human homeostasis, prevention and treatment of disease, and public health concerns. We will also explore concepts in genetics and evolution as they relate to the human body. There will be a focus on the scientific process (aka ?scientific method?) that will be explored through the ten (10) lab activities in this course. This is a lab course, and labs will have both ?in-class? and ?out-of-class? components. We will be viewing and discussing various human biology concepts through several lenses: the scientific process, disease, treatment, public health, and some genetics / evolution. Offered: Fall. “
