THEA 207 - Actor Trng I - Basic Processes


Credits: 4

In this introductory course you will learn methods to embody the art of acting for live performances on stage. Special attention is given to truthful behavior, self-awareness, and reducing self-consciousness. You’ll be introduced to communication techniques and develop physical and vocal presence, furthering your understanding of the acting process and theatre in general. The course includes regular warmups, theatre exercises, improvisations, and play analysis. You’ll engage with basic theatre terminology, contemporary dramatic texts and theatrical performances. The class culminates in the performance of a final scene. Scenes will be selected from a diverse range of playwrights and you’ll explore the political, cultural and social world of the play. This class or THEA208 is a requirement for Theatre Majors with an Acting/Directing emphasis. Notes: THIS COURSE IS APPROPRIATE FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS. Offered in Fall and Spring.
