THEA 222 - Beginning Dance

Bruce Lee once said, “You can’t learn to swim without getting into the water.” That’s all well and good when the water is warm and inviting, but for many of us, the prospect of dancing is cold, murky water, best avoided. If you’ve wondered about dance, but haven’t taken the plunge, then Beginning Dance is for you. In a nurturing, mutually-accepting environment, we will explore the fundamentals of dance technique, of partnering and weight sharing, of working with line and breath, of balance, poise and musicality. Participants will benefit from guest speakers and master teachers representing a myriad of world dance styles, while performing daily stretches and calisthenics that will leave them stronger, more flexible, and with better endurance. Beginning Dance is a perfect stepping stone to more advanced classes in Modern, Jazz, Ballet and other styles. Offered regularly.
