CS 480Q - Quantum Computing & Networking Credits: 4
This course is an introduction to and survey of Quantum Computing and Networking, an emerging interdisciplinary field of science that has the potential to revolutionize information computation and transmission, to transform chemistry, medicine, engineering, and communications, as well as to change our understanding of the physical world. The course will develop an intuitive understanding of quantum computation and algorithms, as well as quantum networks. Topics include an introduction to quantum information; quantum entanglement; quantum protocols; quantum circuits; simple quantum algorithms; quantum Fourier transform; Shor factoring algorithm; Grover search algorithm; quantum error correction; an introduction to quantum networking; protocols in quantum networking; applications of quantum networking; selected additional topics as time permits.
Prerequisite: CS 375 Design & Analysis of Algorithms, MATH 304 Linear Algebra. No previous background in physics is required. Offered once a year.
