EECE 480D - Quantum Sensing & Measurement

This course offers a comprehensive overview of quantum sensing and precision measurement, combining foundational concepts with advanced techniques. Following a brief review of quantum mechanics, covering quantum states, entanglement, coherence, noise, detection, and measurement. The course shifts focus to quantum-enabled sensors and their diverse applications in navigation, communication, material science, defense, and healthcare. Through canonical examples from practical sensing scenarios, students will learn how quantum sensors achieve unparalleled accuracy and resolution, gaining valuable insights into their design, operation, and future potential. Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, this course bridges theory and practice, preparing participants for research and innovation in quantum technology and engineering. Prerequisites: ISE 261 & EECE 212, or equivalent with permission from instructor. Offered in the Fall.
