SW Z541 - Crisis, Grief and Loss

This course will present an introduction to the concepts of crisis intervention, disaster mental health, and working with clients grieving and experiencing loss. It will train students in the use of the knowledge, values, and skills of intervening in a crisis, incorporating de-escalation techniques, recognizing and identifying the phases of disasters, disaster mental health, psychological first aid and coping with grief and loss in order to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities through ethical and competent practice. This course focuses on practice skills to effectively recognize and intervene in crises and disasters and with clients experiencing loss. Students will gain intervention skills in working with clients across the lifespan who are confronted with loss and crises.
