SW Z545 - Grant Writing Credits: 3
This course will offer an introduction to grant writing, with a focus on how human service organizations engage funding institutions and philanthropic donors to invest financial and technical resources in their programs and services. This social work topics course will explore the processes and frameworks for cultivating critical resources amidst a competitive external environment and seemingly scarce resources. Students in this course will learn about distinct funding mechanisms, the grant submission process, and the grant review process. By the end of this experiential course, students will gain knowledge and practice skills for: determining a marketable funding need, identifying potential funders, conceptualizing a project geared toward specific funders, drafting a grant narrative, and preparing ancillary documents (e.g., budgets and budget justifications; letters of support; biographical sketches).
