HIST 257 - History: Methods and Practices




This course examines the practices and methods of history as an academic discipline. It investigates various approaches to the discipline and how it has developed over time with an emphasis on the last three hundred years. Students are exposed to research methods, historiographical and source analysis, library skills, proper citation and writing methods, and major theoretical approaches to the study of history. The class also explores various career opportunities available to history majors. Students are assessed through various writing assignments, including a research paper proposal, annotated bibliography, scholarly literature review, and a research paper. Restriction: Preference given to History majors and minors. Offered each semester. 4 credits.
