THEA 544 - Theatre Production Technology
An introduction to the principles and practices related to design for theatre, coupled with extensive visual research work as related to specific texts. Focus is given to overall production design, including how set, lighting, costume, sound, and projection design are generated through the collaborative process in the creation of a live theatrical production. Students will receive broad exposure to a variety of visual communication tools and practices. This course concentrates on approach to text and related generation of design pathways; highest emphasis is placed on harnessing research towards assimilating a visual concept. Design process will target script analysis, historical research, and visual presentations for benchmark scripts representative of a variety of diverse playwrights, casting, and content within the Western theatrical tradition, culminating in an in-depth final project based on the final script. Fee does not cover drafting equipment. 4 credits. Alternating Spring semesters.
