ENVI 428/528 is an immersive, field-based course occurring in various locations from summer to summer. In 2026, the field class will examine ecosystem management in Southern Utah’s national parks, including Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Capitol Reef. Through hikes, ranger engagement, student-led lectures, and reflective journaling, students explore environmental policy, ecology, Indigenous histories, and the ethical dimensions of conservation in arid landscapes. Emphasizing interdisciplinary, problem-oriented learning, the course challenges students to critically analyze human-nature interactions and evaluate the sustainability of modern national park management. Offered Summer only. 4 credits. Course fee applies. Refer to Schedule of Classes.
