The School of Rehabilitation Sciences within the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences prepares students for professional and scholarly roles in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. The School offers both graduate programs and undergraduate minors.

Physical Therapy

Binghamton University’s Division of Physical Therapy (PT), housed within the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, is committed to developing the next generation of physical therapy clinicians, educators and leaders by providing students with the resources, education, mentorship and opportunities needed for professional success. The Division’s innovative curriculum, accomplished faculty scholars and researchers, and state-of-the-art facilities provide students with a rigorous and supportive educational environment that prepares them to address complex health challenges across diverse populations.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Binghamton University is a full-time, three-year program that integrates classroom instruction, laboratory learning and clinical experiences designed to build strong clinical reasoning, technical skills and professional competencies. Upon successful completion of the program and required clinical experiences, graduates are eligible to take the national licensing examination to practice as physical therapists.

Occupational Therapy

Binghamton University’s Division of Occupational Therapy (OT), housed within the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, is dedicated to preparing future occupational therapy practitioners, scholars and leaders who promote health, participation and well-being across the lifespan. Through a collaborative and innovative learning environment, the Division provides students with the education, mentorship and experiential opportunities needed to support individuals, families and communities in achieving meaningful engagement in daily life.

The Entry-Level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program at Binghamton University is a full-time, three-year curriculum that integrates classroom instruction, experiential learning and supervised fieldwork experiences. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, leadership and interprofessional collaboration while preparing students to address the complex occupational needs of diverse populations. Upon successful completion of the program and required fieldwork, graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for occupational therapists.

Speech-Language Pathology

Binghamton University’s Division of Speech and Language Pathology (SLP) is committed to preparing highly skilled and compassionate speech-language pathologists who improve the quality of life for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. Through rigorous academic preparation, clinical education and research opportunities, the Division equips students with the knowledge and professional competencies needed to serve individuals and communities across the lifespan. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, ethical professional conduct and engagement with the communities of the Southern Tier and beyond.

The Master of Science (MS) program in Speech-Language Pathology combines foundational coursework in speech, language and hearing sciences with specialized instruction in the prevention, assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders. Students participate in extensive supervised clinical experiences that integrate classroom learning with real-world practice across a variety of settings. Upon successful completion of the program and required clinical clock hours, graduates are eligible to pursue clinical fellowship and national certification in speech-language pathology.
