Mediterranean Archaeology Minor

Location(s): Main Campus


Students interested in the minor in Mediterranean Archaeology must complete the following requirements (6 courses in total).

  • At the 100-level, either “Mediterranean Myths, Then & Now” (AMS180M) or “Daily Life in Greece and Rome” (AMS105) or, in exceptional cases, an equivalent course.
  • One course at the 200-level (choosing from e.g. 281M Materials Matter, AMS 280A  Art in the Ancient Greek World, AMS 280C  Ancient Cities, AMS 281Y  Rome: Archaeology of Empire, AMS283 The Archaic Mediterranean, AMS283V Roman Art).
  • Three courses at the 300-level (choosing from e.g. AMS380E Ancient Roman Economy, AMS381F The Etruscans, AMS383Z Archaeological Ethics, AMS381X Rome’s Augustan Rebirth, AMS380A Archaeology of Athens, AMS380H Hellenistic and Roman sculpture, AMS381T Trojan War, AMS380U Urbanism in Antiquity, AMS480S Ancient Italy in Context).
  • One elective course, listed under Ancient Mediterranean Studies (AMS) or one chosen from cognate subjects, e.g. Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geology, and History, or one field study or internship course, these last two by advisement of the Undergraduate Director.

For any one course lacking the “AMS” prefix, students must seek permission from the Undergraduate Director.

No more than two introductory-level (100-level) courses may be counted towards the minor.

Three courses must be at the 300-level or above.

Teaching practica (e.g. AMS391, GRK391, LAT391) shall not count toward the minor.
