Our Master of Business Administration is a STEM-certified, nationally-ranked and AACSB-accredited program. The STEM MBA program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the primary functional areas of business, while also teaching them the fundamental data analytics and technology skills critical for the evolving buisness world. The goal is to prepare students with the most important skills needed in today’s global market including cognitive flexibility, problem-solving, analytical thinking, technological fluency and strategic leadership. The MBA program is grounded in a team-based approach to learning, which capitalizes on the benefits of the student body’s diverse academic, professional, and cultural experiences.
Students who wish to complete a concentration may choose from business analytics, finance, leadership, management information systems, and marketing.

Program Requirements
The Master of Business Administration degree is awarded if the candidate has:
- Completed all required coureswork.
- Maintained the equivalent of a B average in courses including core requirements approved by the program director and presented for the degree.
- Fulfilled all course requirements, with no credit for graduate courses in which a grade equivalent to less than C (C- needs permission of graduate firector) has been received.
- Been recommended for the degree by the Dean’s Office acting on behalf of the faculty of SOM.
A candidate for the MBA degree must complete all requirements for the degree within five years after admission to the school. Exceptions may be made for a part-time student when such exceptions are recommended by the graduate program director in consultation with the dean or dean’s appointee.
Full Time MBA Course Requirements
The 4-Semester MBA program requires the completion of 54 credit hours of graduate coursework, including courses in economics and statistics (which may be waived based on prior coursework). The option is designed for students of all academic backgrounds, meaning no busines or accounting undegraduate degree is required. While no previous business coursework is required, well-developed English and computer skills are expected. Students intending to pursue a concentration in finance must have sufficient background coursework in calculus before beginning the program’s second year.
During the first year of the program, students will take courses centered around the core business concepts and principles every manager should know. In the second year of the program students will have the opportunity to explore elective course offerings, including cross-disciplinary electives, or a customized independent study.
Students who wish to complete a concentration may choose from business analytics, finance, leadership, management information systems, and marketing.
One-year MBA Curriculum (for undergraduate business or accounting majors)
Students who have earned an undergraduate business or accounting degree within five years of applying to the MBA program and who have graduated from an AACSB International-accredited school may apply to the nine-month MBA program. The nine-month MBA program requires completing at least 30 credit hours of full-time graduate coursework. Students may be admitted in the fall or spring semester.
Students who wish to complete a concentration may choose from business analytics, finance, leadership, management information systems, and marketing.
- MGMT 504 - Programming for Bus Analytics
Students who have taken CQS311 - Advanced Computer Tools in MIS (or its equivalent) may replace MGMT 504 with a graduate level technical SOM elective. - MGMT 540 - Strategic Management
- Note: Students who have taken MGMT 411 Global Strategic Management (or its equivalent) may replace MGMT 540 with a graduate level SOM elective.
- Six graduate management electives (of which three must be technical electives).

One-Year MBA Curriculum (for non-business majors)
Students begin the program in the summer (by enrolling in summer terms I and II) and graduate the following May. The One-Year MBA for non-business majors program requires completing 48 credit hours of graduate coursework. To be eligible for the program, students must have completed prior coursework in microeconomics and statistics.
Part-Time Study
Students may pursue the MBA on a part-time basis. Part-time students are subject to the same requirements as full-time students and are taught by the same faculty. Part-time students are expected to take at least two courses per semester, a pace leading to degree completion in approximately four years.
Concentration Requirements
Graduate students select a concentration in order to gain more in-depth knowledge and specialty training in particular aspects of business. Concentration elective guide sheets showing approved courses for each concentration can be found in the SOM Master’s Program Admissions and Student Services Office.
- Each student enrolled in the MBA program may declare a concentration.
- To complete a concentration in management information systems, finance, marketing, and leadership and consulting, students must take a minimum of four courses (16 credit hours).
- Students completing the business analytics concentration must take a minimum of five courses (20 credit hours).
- Only students who have earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from a U.S. college are eligibile to register for ACCT courses at the graduate level.
- Most courses required as part of a concentration are only offered once per academic year.
Accounting
Only students who have earned an undegraduate degree in accounting from a U.S. college are eligibile to register for ACCT courses at the graduate level. The accounting concentration focusses on core concepts and procedures for generating accounting information, and the various ways it can be utilized to make busines decisions. Business Analytics
Students in the business analytics concentration will learn how to use modern technologies and data analysis techniques to engage in strategic decision-making and make projections of future outcomes. Finance
The finance concentration provides students the opportunity to learn about core money management principles for businesses, firms, governments, and indivdiuals. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of analytical tools to engage in effective operational and investment strategies. Leadership and Consulting
The leadership and consulting concentration is for students interested in understanding the dynamics of people in organizations, and how to communicate effectively as a leader in order to create systemic change. Students will learn the fundamentals of creating an culture of adaptivity and responsiveness to the organization’s changing needs. Management Information Systems
The management information systems concentration focusses on how people can use technology to manage business information. Emphasis is on the design and implemententation of business information systems aimed at increasing efficiency and effectiveness. Marketing
Students in the marketing concentration learn the fundamentals of studying consumer behavior in order to make data-driven, integrated marketing decisions. Coursework emphasises brand markets, competitors, and product portfolios in today’s highly competitive global market.
