Location(s): Main Campus

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science

The engineering analytics minor (EAM) is offered through the School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering and is open to undergraduate majors in engineering, computer science, mathematics, and business. Students in this minor will acquire a set of practical data analytics skills, including understanding patterns in data, applying analytical frameworks, analyzing collected data in engineering problems, constructing predictive models, and discovering hidden relationships in data. Hence, students will gain a competitive advantage in this rapidly growing field and be better prepared to enter the workforce and analyze large data sets in their chosen fields.

Course Requirements

The EAM requires the completion of three ISE core courses (12 credit hours) and three ISE electives (9 credit hours) with a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.7 (with a letter grade being required for all courses in the EAM). The total number of credit hours required for this minor is 21.

Any substitution of the courses (core courses, elective courses, and/or prerequisite courses) is subject to the review and approval of the ISE undergraduate program director or the chair of the School of SSIE.

Note:

These courses can be used to fulfill the requirements for the BS ISE major because they are BS ISE core courses.

Elective Courses (9 credits)

Complete three courses chosen from the following list:

Notes:

  • For ISE students, only one of these electives can be double-counted toward the major degree requirements. However, for students enrolled in an SSIE 4+1 program, the minor electives will not count towards the BS ISE and MS ISE (or MS SS) programs.
  • For non-ISE students, students are requested to check with their home school’s or department’s Undergraduate Program Director and/or Chair regarding their policy regarding double-counting of credits.

Prerequisite Courses for Students with a Non-ISE Background

Students with a non-ISE background should note that the core courses have the following prerequisites:
