BS ISE-MS Industrial and Systems Engineering Program

The 4+1 BS in industrial and systems engineering (ISE) and MS in industrial and systems engineering program is available for students working toward their BS ISE who have a GPA of at least 3.3 or above after five semesters (i.e., at the end of the fall semester in their junior year) and a B+ or better in both ISE 261 and ISE 362. An intent application, which must be approved by the graduate director, is available online at the my.binghamton portal. Students approved for the 4+1 degree program can take up to three graduate courses while still in the undergraduate program that count both toward their technical elective requirements for the BS ISE and toward their MS ISE degree requirements. For SSIE graduate electives that are cross-listed as 400-level and 500-level courses, students in the 4+1 degree program must register for the graduate (500) level course for the course to count toward the BS ISE and the MS ISE. While such graduate courses are typically taken in the senior year, these graduate courses can also occur in the spring semester of the junior year with approval of the graduate director and/or the chair of the school. In the fifth (graduate) year, students in this program must register for 9-12 or more credits in each of the two semesters. This program typically allows the completion of the MS ISE degree in one year beyond the BS ISE degree. Students in the 4+1 BS ISE and MS ISE program receive their BS ISE degree after completing their undergraduate requirements. The MS ISE degree is an excellent professional credential, which usually commands a substantially increased starting salary.

Students in this 4+1 program can also participate in the following MS concentrations:
