Binghamton University, in partnership with Middle East Technical University (METU), offers a dual-diploma bachelor’s degree in Global and International Affairs. This four-year program includes full-time enrollment for the second and fourth years at Binghamton University. Dual-diploma students take political science, history, general education, and other courses alongside Binghamton students. Graduates of the program receive two diplomas: a Bachelor of Science in Global and International Affairs from Harpur College of Arts and Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Global and International Affairs from Middle East Technical University.

Program Requirements


Admissions Requirement


Students in the GIA program are selected by Middle East Technical University. METU accepts Turkish students graduated from high schools or equivalent institutions through the central entrance examination conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). After completing Binghamton University’s admission requirements, GIA students can proceed to Binghamton University in their sophomore year to complete sophomore and senior years at Binghamton.


International students who have graduated from high schools, lyceums or equivalent institutions and who satisfy the application criteria may directly apply to Middle East Technical University’s joint program with Binghamton University. The admission criteria generally include an acceptable score from one of the internationally recognized examinations (such as SAT, GCE, IB etc.), or from university entrance examinations of some countries.

University General Education Requirements


All Binghamton University undergraduate students are required to fulfill this set of university-wide requirements to ensure that every graduate acquires the essential core of a SUNY university undergraduate education. Please refer to the General Education page for more information.

Harpur College Requirements


All students in Harpur College must fulfill additional requirements designated by Harpur College to complement and extend the general education requirements. Please refer to the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences  page for more information.

Major Requirements


Course Requirements (70 credits total)


  • 32 credits in Political Science
    • 12 credits must be taken in residency at Binghamton University, including a 400-level seminar
  • 22 credits in History
    • 16 credits must be taken in residency at Binghamton University, including one at the 400-level
  • One Writing Course
    • WRIT 111 Inquiry and Academic Writing
    • EML 218 Advanced English Language Transfer Students
  • One course in Microeconomics
  • One course in Macroeconomics
  • One course in Statistics

Additional Information About the Program


Students must earn a C- or better grade in any political science and history courses as well as in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and statistics.

NOTE: Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that this may impede their ability to study abroad. Students who have concerns about such matters are advised to contact the Office of International Education and Global Initiatives.
