The certificate of advanced study (CAS) in educational leadership prepares prospective educational leaders to serve in PreK-12 schools and school districts. The program is designed for part-time, post-master’s students who work full-time as teachers or other kinds of educational professionals in elementary and secondary schools. Successful completion of this coursework and other requirements will permit Binghamton University to recommend qualified students to the State Education Department for the New York State Administrator Certification and the Superintendent Extension.

Prior graduate-level coursework used to waive credits should adequately prepare students for licensure in NY state and have already achieved the learning outcomes expected for the courses being waived. Students must submit for review transcripts and syllabi.  If syllabi are not available, then official course descriptions may be considered, so long as it provides sufficient detail to determine course equivalency. Waivers will be approved if the graduate-level coursework taken at other institutions is deemed comparable to the Binghamton University course requirements for the Educational Leadership advanced certificate.

Minimum Requirements for Certificate of Advanced Study

Required Courses: 30 Credits

The Educational Leadership program requires students to pass the New York State Leadership Assessments and to develop a Personal Plan for Self-Improvement and Continuous Learning (completed during EDUC 692 ), consistent with current New York state standards.
