Economics Minor

To declare a minor in economics, students must have completed 60 credits.

Requirements


Departmental requirements for a minor in economics are six full courses distributed as listed below. At least four of the courses must be taken at Binghamton University. These four courses must include Econ 360 and at least one elective.

 

  • ECON 160   Principles of Microeconomics
  • ECON 162   Principles of Macroeconomics
  • One of the following Calculus Options
    • MATH 220   Calculus for Business and Management OR
    • MATH 224   Differential Calculus AND MATH 225  Integral Calculus 
  • ECON 360   Microeconomic Theory
  • Two addiitonal courses in Economics
    • One must be numbered 400-489
    • 400-level economics courses require MATH 147 or the equivalent 

Notes:


At least four of the courses in the student’s minor program must be in addition to those counted toward fulfilling the requirements for the student’s major(s) and/or other minor(s).

Therefore, students whose major/minor requirements in other fields include more than three of the courses listed above will need to substitute additional 300+ level economics elective courses to meet the requirements for the economics minor.
