Return to: Academic Degrees and Programs
The geography program trains students to analyze and address challenges in both human and natural systems. Students develop expertise through field-based observation and qualitative research alongside spatial analysis using geospatial methods in Geographic Information Science and remote sensing. This integrated methodological training prepares students for careers in urban planning, environmental resource management, public health, geospatial analysis, and community development.
The department offers a number of curricular options that permit a general education or the choice of a more specialized focus, as outlined below in the Major Requirements section. All options provide preparation for graduate work and/or for careers in public and private agencies. Courses emphasize problem-solving approaches in both a theoretical and applied manner. Double majors are encouraged, and special programs may be designed on request.
