Mediterranean Archaeology Minor

Students interested in the minor in Mediterranean Archaeology must complete the following requirements (6 courses in total):

  • At the 100-level, either “Mediterranean Myths, Then & Now” (AMS 180M) or “Daily Life in Greece and Rome” (AMS 105) or, in exceptional cases, an equivalent course.
  • One course at the 200-level (choosing from e.g. AMS 235 Art in the Ancient Greek World, AMS 280C Ancient Cities, AMS 281Y Rome: Archaeology of Empire, AMS 283 The Archaic Mediterranean, AMS 230 Roman Art).
  • Three courses at the 300-level (choosing from e.g. AMS 330 Ancient Roman Economy, AMS 320 The Etruscans, AMS 383Z Archaeological Ethics, AMS 381X Rome’s Augustan Rebirth, AMS 340 Archaeology of Athens, AMS 345 Hellenistic and Roman sculpture, AMS381T Trojan War, AMS 380U Urbanism in Antiquity, AMS 480S Ancient Italy in Context).
  • One elective course, listed under Ancient Mediterranean Studies (AMS) or one chosen from cognate subjects, e.g. Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geology, and History, or one field study or internship course (these last two by advisement of the Undergraduate Director).

Note:

  • For any one course lacking the “AMS” prefix, students must seek permission from the Undergraduate Director.
  • No more than two introductory-level (100-level) courses may be counted towards the minor.
  • Three courses must be at the 300-level or above.
  • Any course in which a student receives the grade of P or D shall not count toward the minor.
  • Teaching practica (e.g. AMS 391, GRK 391, LAT 391) shall not count toward the minor.
