Harpur Wide Combined Degree Programs

In addition to the programs listed below, students are able to pursue a series of Harpur wide combined degree programs found here.

4+1 BA-MA Program

Students may earn a Bachelor of Arts in Geography (BA) with a Master of Arts in Geography (MA) in five total years. The requirements for the BA portion of this 4+1 degree program are the same as the BA requirements listed in the undergraduate section.

The program is designed for exceptional students with a GPA of 3.0 and above who wish to complete both the BA and MA degrees in five years. The requirements for completion of the 4+1 BA/MA degree program are the same as those for the two separate degrees. However, because up to 18 credits of coursework taken for the master’s degree (500-level courses) are fulfilling requirements for the undergraduate degree, students are able to complete the course requirements for the BA in four years, and the course requirements for the combined BA/MA degree in five years. By completing the BA requirements during the first four years, students are assured of the bachelor’s degree if, for any reason, they do not complete the fifth year.

Students are encouraged to discuss the program with the Graduate Director and declare their interest in the program as early as possible. Students should begin the application process early in the third year by applying to the 4+1 degree program at the departmental level. The student will complete an application, including submitting a statement of purpose, providing transcripts, and letters of recommendations from two geography faculty members.

Undergraduate credits: 126. Maximum Double counted credits: 18. Graduate credits: 40.
