4+1 BS-MS Geological Sciences Program
Students have the opportunity to complete both the bachelor’s and master’s degree in geological sciences in five years. In order to complete the master’s degree in just one additional year of study, students enrolled in accelerated 4+1 master’s degree programs have reduced residency requirements, where a minimum of 18 credit hours (excluding thesis research), must be completed at the graudate-level. Students are expected to apply in their junior year with initial admission requirements into the program, including a minimum GPA of 3.3. Final requirements for admission to the Graduate School at the end of their senior year include: 1) completion of courses necessary for the BS in one of the currently defined BS tracks by the end of their fourth year; 2) two letters of recommendation and an identified advisor; 3) official transcripts and a personal statement; and, 4) at least a B letter grade for each of the two graduate courses taken during the fourth year. Interested students should see their undergraduate geology advisor early in the junior year to discuss requirements.
Undergraduate credits: 126. Maximum Double counted credits: 8. Graduate credits: 30.
