LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency Microcredential

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Harpur College of Arts and Sciences

The Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program believes that cultural competency is a demonstrable skill of understanding and appreciating cultural differences, and is applicable in fields as diverse as healthcare, finance, law, and social service work. Cultural competence is the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse cultures, while recognizing one’s own cultural biases. A student who completes this micro-credential will understand how LGBT identities intersect with, and are complicated by, social constructs such as race, ethnicity, nationality, class and religion. As such they will stand out to potential employers as someone with knowledge to contribute to changing and diverse workplaces.
