Double Degree in Public Health and Community Health Nursing

Public Health and Nursing are two of the fastest-growing fields in healthcare.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science (MS) in Community Health Nursing are complimentary degrees and opportunities abound for graduates who are knowledgeable in both areas.

The MPH program aims to prepare competent public health professionals who can apply their knowledge to solve public health challenges. Students in this program learn how to develop scientific evidence and translate it into meaningful health improvements for diverse populations and communities. Graduates are prepared to be effective leaders who possess the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes for: assessing complex public health issues; designing, implementing and evaluating public health policies and programs; and conducting applied research to improve health services and enhance the health and well-being of communities.

The Master of Science (MS) program in nursing prepares post-baccalaureate nurses to become nurse educators in community health nursing. In this program, registered professional nurses learn how to assess communities; make community diagnoses in relation to its health status; and plan, implement and evaluate educational programs that address specific health needs of communities. Graduates of this program serve as community leaders who promote health and wellness within a community by educating individuals and groups about healthy behaviors and disease prevention.

Employment opportunities for graduates who hold both degrees include: public health departments at county and state levels, hospitals, home healthcare, primary care, outpatient care centers, long-term care facilities, health and human service agencies, community health programs, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, as well as colleges and universities.
